Up next in our Spotlight on States series is Indiana! Indiana was the 19th state to join the union on December 11, 1816. Indianapolis is the state capital. Indiana is the 38th largest state in the U.S. and is bordered by the states of Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the estimated population of Indiana is 6,862,199 (July 2023 est.); it ranks as the 17th most populous state.

The founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is actually from Indiana, not Kentucky. Colonel Harland Sanders grew up in the town of Henryville, Indiana.
There are many famous people from Indiana including Abraham Lincoln, James Dean, Steve McQueen, Michael Jackson and family, David Letterman, and many more.
