Up next in our Spotlight on States series is Idaho!

 

Idaho was the 43rd state to join the union on July 3, 1890. Boise is the state capital and the state’s largest city. Idaho is the 14th largest state in the U.S. It is bordered by the states of Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the estimated population of Idaho is 1,964,726 (July 2023 est.); it ranks as the 38th most populous state.

– Idaho is the largest producer of potatoes in the U.S.

 

–The deepest river gorge in the U.S. is in Idaho. At 7,993 feet deep, it exceeds the depth of the Grand Canyon.

 

–Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in central Idaho feels like a lunar walk, but it’s actually a massive, dried lava flow that formed over thousands of years.

 

–The old mining town of Silver City looks almost exactly the way it did more than a hundred years ago.

 

– Idaho is home to the world’s tallest Western White Pine tree at 219 feet, taller than Cinderella’s Castle at Disney World!
